It is very important that you buy high-quality essential oils. If you don’t you are posing a bigger risk to your health. Oils that are not pure can contain harmful chemicals, metals, and toxins, and may not even be the oil that the label claims. 1) Where do the plants come from

You want to make sure the company you are buying from is sourcing its plants from sustainable sources. If the company you are buying from is using mass sourcing, the plants may not be good quality or could be sprayed with harmful chemicals. The suppliers should have sustainable practices to ensure the best quality. This reduces the quality of the oil and can interrupt the health benefits.

2) How does the company extract their oils

If the company you are looking to buy from is chemically extracting its oils, that is an immediate NO! The extracting of the oils should come from methods such as distillation or cold-pressing.

3) Are the oils unadulterated

When you’re buying oils, you want the purest essential oils possible. I can’t express enough how bad contaminated oil is for you. If you are diffusing a bad oil in your home, you are putting loads of harmful chemicals and toxins in your air and you are not reaping any health benefits at all.

4) Are the bottles and labels appropriate?

If the essential oils are in a plastic bottle that’s a big red flag. Don’t buy them. We all know how bad plastics are for our health and the essential oil will cause the plastic to leach into it, making it an impure oil. You want your oils stored in an amber, glass bottle. Labels should have all the information about the oil on them and the label must correctly represent what is in the bottle. You’d be surprised how many studies have been done to show that the bottle isn’t what it says it is. Your label should tell you everything about the oil such as the common name and the botanical name. Avoid oils that say “perfume oil,” “Fragrance oil,” or “essence of.” These are not true essential oils, just chemically made oils.

5)Proper Testing

This is one of the most important things when buying an essential oil. If your essential oil company isn’t doing proper testing, the quality of its oils is more likely compromised. That being said, you don’t want just any testing. Essential oils should go through rigorous testing. Oils should go through gc-ms testing (gas chromatography and mass spectrometry) to make sure there aren’t any chemicals, metals, pesticides, etc in the oil or in the plant. The brand should also be third-party tested. If they claim they do their own testing and are not sending it to a third-party lab, I wouldn’t buy them. It is easy to alter your own test results. Third-party testing ensures un-bias testing and accurate testing results.

While I’m not opposed to an MLM brand, there are better brands out there. The price point on them is super high. While certain mlm brands boast high-quality standards, they don’t do third-party testing. Regardless if they have a great reputation or not, I wouldn’t trust things that are not third-party tested. There have been many recent controversies with a certain brand that have made me question any company I buy from. In any case, I would watch out for false claims by ANY essential oil company that claims to heal or cure any ailment. I also would be very cautious of dietary supplements, especially if there is no third-party testing

With that being said, I’m happy we have many different brands of good companies to choose from. The best non-mlm essential oil companies are some of the best essential oil brands on the market. Since they are a smaller business their quality control is better, they are more likely to have pure oils, they will more likely have affordable prices, and their customer service is usually better. The best Non-MLM essential oil companies also are usually small businesses and are more likely to have higher ethical and sustainable practices. MLM oils are also at a higher price point to make up for the “middleman” in the company. Remember, not every oil company is created equally and each company has its own business practices and convictions. The best thing is that you can most likely find one that aligns with yours.

Edens Garden also has a wide variety of sets, which I love because it’s a great way to save a little money! They also have a 5ml, 10ml, or 30ml option for their bottles so if you use a certain oil more frequently, you can buy it in larger bottles! This especially comes in handy for me with oils like lavender, orange, or lemon because I use those frequently in my home!
