One comment I hear from many people trying to switch to a more natural lifestyle is that it gets so expensive trying to change all of their products out and buy the natural version.
When I think of how many different types of cleaners we have out there now, I can see why people would think that! The thing is, you don’t need a ton of different cleaning products to clean and disinfect your home safely!
I’ve been making my own homemade cleaners for a while now and I always learn more and more about effective cleaning ingredients. I used to use things like lemon juice and white vinegar to do my regular cleaning, and while I still optimize those, I’ve found natural ingredients that work just as well as commercial cleaners without all the harsh chemicals!
Why homemade all-purpose cleaner?
Most people think homemade cleaners are less effective than commercial cleaning products, but that is far from the truth.
When using a natural all-purpose cleaner you need only one cleaner to clean just about everything. Of course, I do make separate glass cleaner and dusting spray, but I use my all-purpose cleaner for everything else!
Making an all-purpose cleaner is so cost-effective and budget-friendly. When you look at how expensive buying natural cleaners can get, going homemade is always the most cost-effective way to go!
This uses very simple ingredients and is a very tough surface cleaner. The ingredients truly disinfect and can be used on any surface.
What are the Ingredients in Natural All-Purpose Cleaner
These ingredients I use in just about everything in my home from liquid laundry detergent to homemade dish soap. Honestly, I could make a concentrate from these products but I have not gone through the effort to use preservatives in my homemade products yet so I’ll have to make all my products individually for now!
Distilled Water
You will need distilled water to dilute your mixture safely so as not to harm your surfaces or bother your skin if it comes into contact with it. You have to use distilled and if you use filtered water you need to make sure it filters out everything or you can contaminate your mixture!
Coco Glucoside
This is my favorite ingredient of all time for cleaning products. Coco glucoside is a surfactant that is derived from coconuts. It helps break down dirt and grime and cleans surfaces. It is a very mild surfactant so it won’t irritate the skin and it is not abrasive so you won’t have to worry about damaging your surfaces!
I use this in 99% of my products now since I discovered it. It is a great non-toxic option for liquid laundry soap and for homemade dish soap as well!
Vegetable Glycerin
Vegetable glycerin helps to lift and remove stains and other materials from surfaces.
Hydrogen Peroxide:
Hydrogen peroxide is great for killing bacteria and disinfecting
Essential Oils
This essential oil blend is made with essential oils that are naturally disinfecting, anti-bacterial, and anti-microbial so you don’t need to use things like chlorine bleach to disinfect. You will find these oils in most germ-fighting blends from essential oils companies such as the Germ Fighter blend from Plant Therapy

What surfaces can this homemade spray be used on?
This natural all-purpose cleaner can be used on all surfaces from counter tops to hardwood floors. Since this is free of any harsh chemicals you don’t have to worry about any of the ingredients damaging your surfaces. I have used this to clean stainless steel appliances, remove soap scum, and to clean off my kitchen table!
If you are skeptical, spot test before you clean to make sure your surfaces do not become damaged!
How to Make All-purpose Spray
Making this all-purpose spray is very easy. All you need is a mixing bowl, some measuring cups/spoons, a whisk, and a clean spray bottle.
First:
Add in 30 drops of Thieves essential oil blend into a bowl. See my recipe here. Or you can follow this guideline:
- 10 Drops clove oil
- 6 drops cinnamon oil
- 4 drops lemon oil
- 4 drops orange oil
- 3 drops eucalyptus oil
- 3 drops rosemary oil
Second:
Add four tablespoons of coco glucoside to your essential oils and whisk
Third:
Add in two tablespoons of vegetable glycerin and whisk
Fourth:
Add 1 Tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide
Fifth:
Add mixture to a 4oz glass bottle and top with distilled water
That’s it!
How to use your all-purpose spray
I like to spray my mixture on a microfiber cloth to spot test first. Then, I wipe down my countertops, tables, or anything that needs cleaning!
Conclusion:
Making effective homemade cleaners is possible by using this all-natural all-purpose spray. The best part of this is there are no harmful ingredients and it is free of synthetic fragrances, making this safe for everyone in your home! Making your own household cleaner is better for our environment, but it is a great, frugal item to make as well!
